Mix the Dry
In a small bowl, whisk together 2 1/4 cups flour, 1 tsp baking soda, and 1 tsp salt.
Make the Dough
In a large mixing bowl, beat 1 cup softened butter, 3/4 cup white sugar, 3/4 cup brown sugar, and 1 tsp vanilla until creamy. Add 2 eggs, one at a time, beating well after each. Gradually beat in dry flour mixture. Stir in 2 cups chocolate chips and 1 cup chopped nuts (if using).
Scoop & Bake
Drop by rounded tablespoon onto ungreased baking sheets. Bake for 9-11 minutes, until golden brown. Cool on sheet for 2 minutes, then transfer to wire rack.
